I'm furious.

So Lily had her EKG yesterday. They say LQTS is nearly impossible to catch on an infant's EKG even when read by a specialist. So they said they saw nothing but would keep on screening her periodically. They also decided to give her a heart monitor to wear for 24 hours. That's where things went wrong today.

The doc yesterday mentioned in passing that this could be done through Children's but she would rather have the Harvard Kenmore lab do it so they could do it quicker. So we went to the lab today and they gave my 6 month old daughter an adult size heart monitor, complete with adult size leads and cords. Unhappy, we started to ask some questions. The lab tech admitted they had *never* attached a holter monitor to an infant. Gee, there's gotta be a reason. The whole situation just seemed a bit unsafe to have cords and straps hanging off a baby... at least while she's sleeping. The second tech told us we'd just have to sit and watch her sleep all night long. Yeah, like we could stay awake. Their solution to everything was to vigorously tape everything very roughly to Lily and secure everything else with bandaids. Yes, bandaids. They even gave us an extra handful to take home.

When we got home I was more upset than I was originally. I tried to drive around to calm myself down, but I lost it again when I started to explain it all to my mother. She encouraged me to call the pediatric cardiologist to complain/explain to them how inappropriately this had all been handled. The lady who answered the phone agreed with me and said pediatric monitors existed somewhere. The pedi-cariologist who we had seen called me back and basically tried to make it look like she had done nothing wrong and informed me that she told the lab a baby was coming. Really? You did all that? She told me she'd look into the thing at Childrens and to take off Lily's monitor since I wasn't going to let her sleep with it on.

Soooo.... yeah. Rough day. And then she threw up all over me and her rug. Not a single drop on her. Amazing.

wish us luck today... Lily has her EKG to see if she inherited LQTS from me. 50% chance of it. oy.

it's official...

i'm starting a feud with the people next door. we were all out there shoveling this morning and he was shoveling all his driveway snow onto our wheelchair/baby carriage ramp. like, right in front of us. and i wanted so badly to say something nasty to him but i decided to be more civilized and say something to alex just loud enough for the neighbors to hear... and shoot dirty looks at him while shoveling the 2 feet of snow off the ramp. and i totally plan on continuing to call the cops on every party they have. which isn't something new, but i used to feel a little bit bad about it. i only did it because they made it impossible to sleep. now it's just revenge.

in other news, Lily is 6 months old today! yay - we made it a whole half a year! not that i had doubts but still, it's a big accomplishment for new young parents.

there are so many things i need to do but Lily will only nap for like ten mins if i put her in her crib. right now she is fast asleep on my left arm which is making typing a bit difficult. gotta fold the clean laundry so i can use the laundry baskets to do more laundry, clean out too small baby clothes from Lily's closet and move in the new size, wash all the bottles and refill them, some general cleaning, and grow a few more arms.

it's snowing!!

My new laptop that I got for Christmas is great... the background pic keeps changing on it's own which is kinda cool but mysterious.

Today's date is a palindrome - 01/02/2010 - one of 36 palindrome dates that will occur this millenium. That is also kinda cool. However, not so mysterious.

Christmas was so overly hectic this year. Way too many people at once. My nieces are now 6 and 7 and I hadn't seen them since they lived here with us 3 1/2 years ago, and they are pretty much exactly the same except older, and it reminded me of why I was never home in high school. They made me want to run away. Every 30 seconds they were asking to hold Lily, though, which I wasn't completely comfortable with. But all in all it was a really nice time, it had been too long since the whole family was together like this.

Thanks to my favorite cooking show ever ("Sirmā ēdienkarte"), I found out about this cool Latvian musician called Jēkabs Nīmanis. There was no reason whatsoever not to know about him all this time! Him and a Latvian actor Andris Keišs (the one from the local version of "Kommissar Rex") got together and recorded an album "Dziesmas Par Mīlestību" (Songs about love) earlier this year. I've only heard a couple of songs, but loved them so far. Am looking forward to digging through the album in the nearest future.

Also, I seem to be falling in love with cooking shows lately. Even the crazy American ones, where the host(ess) is a stuck up know-it-all with perfect skills (lololol). My second favorite, though, is easy to guess.. It's "Smak" with Vanya Urgant, of course! Whenever I get a chance to watch it, it's always a good time. Especially when neither the host, nor the guest know how to actually prepare the meal. <3

Ok, time to catch some zzzz's. Watching Sirmais cook made me miss home so much more. Life...
